Is there enough space for a heat pump?
No doubt, the heat pumps are one of the most cost-efficient and convenient options for air conditioning of a building. But when choosing it has to be considered that:
Water source heat pumps
- have to be installed in indoor space, preferably in a room with temperatures not lower that 0oC. If there isn’t appropriate space in the building, a thermally insulated building with alternative heating should be built. The fact that water in the drilling has to reach the heat pump by tubes that are buried in the ground, is often missed.- When the system is ground-connected, there should be enough free area for placing the tubes of ground coils, which the machine draws energy from. Later on that area can be used for growing flowers and seasonal plantations, but it can’t be built on it.
Air source heat pumps
- have to be installed in outdoor space when ensuring a minimum separation of walls to provide optimal air flow. They can be also used for air conditioning of flats as being installed on an open terrace or a balcony. The weight of one such unit shouldn’t be ignored too.
Fan coil units
- are being installed as an average central heating radiator. But there should be also electrical outlet
